Cancer survivor and founder of Let’s Talk About Cancer, Bev du Toit, is
the guest speaker at the first meeting of a cancer support group called “It’s
all about you”.
The support group, organised by Women in
Action, will meet at the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God, 20 Claim
Street, Johannesburg on Tuesday 6 March at 14:00. Everyone is welcome. There is
no charge.
Bev du Toit was diagnosed with ovarian
cancer in 1996. At the time she was studying wellness and personal growth. She used her knowledge to motivate her during
her healing process and went into remission in 1997.
Bev started Let’s Talk About Cancer to increase awareness of the disease and
provide information on the importance of early detection. Working with the
Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA), Bev co-developed the Cancer Coping
Kit which assists newly diagnosed patients and their families cope with the
illness and treatment. The four-CD pack
is available countrywide, free of charge, from CANSA.
After Bev’s talk, patients and their
families will meet in small groups led by a trained facilitator where they can
learn from each other, share concerns and benefit from space and time to absorb
information and receive emotional and spiritual support.
The support group is organised by Women in
Action (WiA) a group of pastors’ wives from the Universal Church of the Kingdom
of God (UCKG) who are trained cancer counsellors. Pastors have been trained to
work specifically with forms of cancer which affect men.
Meetings will be held twice a month for an
eight week period.
For further information, please contact Nametso Mofokeng at the church’s
public relations department on 011 224 3400 or email pr@uckg.org.za.

This project will make much of a change in our communities and families as people will be empowered by gaining knowledge about this dreadful disease and they will be able to know how to deal with it and fight against it because knowlegde is power.
