The Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (UCKG), in
the true spirit of Mandela Day, will embark on a week-long nationwide campaign,
extending our hands to help those less fortunate.
Our WiA (Women in Action) Mandela Day activities
include:
· 17 July: A ‘spring cleaning’ of
the Danile Kriel Place of Safety in Langlaagte, as well as refreshments for the
young ladies who reside there
. 18
July: Creating a sustainable vegetable
and herb garden for the young girls housed at the Berea-Hillbrow Home of Hope
to help them grow and maintain a garden from which a large portion of their
sustenance will stem. This 2-day project is undertaken with the assistance of
Eden’s Landscapers, who have generously donated their labour for this venture.
· 18 July: Breakfast and
complimentary hand massages for the nursing staff at the oncology wards at the
Charlotte Maxeke and CH Baragwanath Hospitals in Johannesburg, and the Tyger
Valley hospital in Cape Town, where the group provides on-going cancer patient counseling
and support. This will be done in recognition of the sacrifices and hard work
they put in daily at the ward
· 18 July: A talk will be held
with the young girls at the Nomathamsanqa Primary School in Port Elizabeth
about their health, hygiene and pubescent changes in their bodies, during which
event much-needed sanitary pads will be donated to the girls.
· 18 July: Indoor games, lunch and
entertainment for the residents at the Eldorado Retirement Centre in East
London
. 21 July:
In Rustenburg, they will visit the Kutlwanong Orphanage and School for
Deaf Children, where there will be an assortment of activities, including a
puppet show, gospel show, sports and games, as well as refreshments. In
Kimberley, they will visit the Lorato Place of Safety in Galeshewe, where the
children at the Centre will be entertained, refreshments will be served and
blankets will be donated.
